Why Your Art Matters (Especially If You’ve Been Comparing Yourself to Others)

There was a season where I questioned everything I was creating.

I found myself constantly comparing my work to others… wondering if I was too late, not good enough, or if what I was making even mattered at all.

Maybe you’ve felt that too.

Scrolling and seeing what everyone else is creating.
Wondering if your style measures up.
Questioning if there’s even space for you.

It’s exhausting. And honestly, it can make you want to stop altogether.

But what I’ve come to realize is this:

Your creativity isn’t random.

It wasn’t given to you by accident.
It wasn’t meant to look like someone else’s.
And it doesn’t need to compete to have value.

You were created to create.

Not to copy.
Not to compare.
Not to shrink yourself into someone else’s path.

But to bring something into the world that only you can.

That shift didn’t happen overnight for me. It came through a lot of questioning, a lot of doubt, and a lot of quiet moments where I had to choose to keep going anyway.

And out of that season… this book was born.

Why Your Art Matters is a reflection on purpose, calling, and courage in the creative life—from a Christian perspective. It’s for the artist who feels stuck, discouraged, or unsure if their work has meaning.

If you’ve been wrestling with comparison or wondering if your creativity has a place, I wrote this for you.

You don’t have to create like anyone else to matter.

Your art has purpose.
